Woodfordia is embarking on an
ambitious journey towards more
sustainable building and arts creation.
With an aim to eventually ‘close the
loop’ on materials and waste used on
site, Bamboo expert Arief Rabik and
Sydney-based collective Cave Urban will
be working with Woodfordia towards the
creation of a bamboo-producing grove,
fed by waste water on site.
SAT The Grove 2:15PM

collaborative projects at Woodfordia,
namely Woven Sky and Woven Cloud
with Master Wang Wen-Chih, the
joyously infamous Pineapple Lounge at
the Woodford Folk Festival.
Master bamboo artist from Taiwan, Wang Wen-Chih creates large-scale
architectural sculpture using bamboo and natural materials. Wang Wen-Chih
has exhibited in public art spaces across the world. The stunning sculptures
Woven Sky and Woven Cloud, built at Woodfordia since 2013 are examples
of Wen-Chih’s mastery when created in collaborative building exercises.
Wang Wen-Chih’s artworks are celebrated across the world for its visual
impact, as well as the emotional connection it creates from the relationship
between the makers and the environment it is responding to. In this
discussion via translator, Wang Wen-Chih describes some of the process
and inspiration drawn from traditional techniques he learned in his village
in the hills of Chiayi, Taiwan, and how the labour intensive collaboration as
part of the building process - is actually part of the artwork itself.
